Charles Evans's 28:08 matched the 7th-fastest ever at LFC.
BELOIT, WI - While "over the river and through the woods" might be the way to Grandma's house, the route to the finish line at the Beloit Old English Classic cross country race could be described as "over the obstacles and through the river." The Forester cross country teams competed in the adventurous meet on Saturday (September 29th) and finished fifth in the women's race and seventh in the men's.

For the women, the course is two loops, one big and one small, each with a shallow (knee-high) river crossing and a number of hay-bale and log jumps. Sophomore Lee Winklepleck (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown) was the first Forester to cross the line, completing the 5-kilometer course in 22:40 after less than two weeks of practice. She finished in 32nd place out of 70 runners. Freshman Olga Mikhaylov (Chicago, IL/Stevenson) and junior Molly Sutherland (St. Paul, MN/Visitation) were the next two on the team and injured juniors Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) and Melissa Brown (Cape Coral, FL/Cape Coral) rounded out the squad's top five.

The men's course doubles the large loop before finishing with the smaller one, meaning there are three river crossings and even more obstacles to jump. Senior Charles Evans (Asheville, NC/Carolina Day School) continued to be the top runner for the men's team by completing the 8-kilometer course in a career-best 28:08, matching the seventh-best time in the program's seven-year history. Evans placed 20th overall out of 70 runners in the meet. Junior Eric Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer) was the next Forester, placing 29th with a time of 29:06. Junior Rob Bahde (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield), freshman Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) and senior Naresh Kavuri (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) completed the team's top five and dropped a combined 1:55 from their times last week.

Lawrence University was the team champion in the women's race and UW-Stevens Point was the top men's team.

Next Friday (October 5th) the Foresters will travel to Benedictine University in Lisle, IL to compete in the Eagle Invitational. The meet begins at 3:30 PM
