Motzer and Meiring Lead Foresters at Tom Barry Invitational
Runners survive heat, men place seventh; women twelfth
  

Erin Motzer has been the Foresters' top runner in both meets this season.
GREEN BAY, WI - The Lake Forest College cross country teams were in action Saturday (September 7) at the Tom Barry Invitational, hosted by St. Norbert College at Colburn Park in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The men placed seventh at the 17-team event while the women took 12th. Colburn Park will also be the site of the 2002 Midwest Conference Championship Meet on November 2.

In the women's 5-kilometer race, UW-Stout took first place with 77 points. Host St. Norbert College was just five points back, 15 ahead of third-place Beloit College. Lake Forest's 305 points were 23 more than 11th-place Maranatha Baptist College and 31 ahead of Edgewood College.

Senior Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) was the top Forester finisher in 48th place with a time of 22:14. Junior Lee Winklepleck (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown) was the next Lake Forest runner in 54th at 22:29 and freshman Elisabeth Lewis (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Black Forest Academy) crossed the line two places and three seconds later.

The men's team champion was UW-Parkside with just 33 points. UW-Stout was second with 63 and St. Norbert placed third with 108. The Foresters, with 217 points, were just one point behind sixth-place M.S.O.E. and 30 ahead of Midwest Conference foe Carroll College.

Individually, Lake Forest placed three runners in the top 50. Freshman Derek Meiring (Carleton, MI/Airport Senior) was the team's top runner in 21st place and with a 4-mile time of 23:16. Senior captain Eric Crawley (Braintree, MA/Thayer) was 42nd in 23:56 and sophomore Logan Dick (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) finished 45th in 23:59.

Next Saturday (September 14), the Foresters will compete in the Concordia University Invite in Mequon, Wisconsin. The women's 5K will begin at 10:45 a.m. and the men's 8K will follow at 11:30. The last time Lake Forest participated in the meet was in 2000 when the men placed fourth and the women fifth.
