Men's
and Women's Cross Country Both 6th at Tom Barry Invitational
Simpson and Evans lead the
Foresters
GREEN BAY, WI - The Lake Forest
College Cross Country teams traveled north on Saturday (September 9th)
to compete in the 26th Annual Tom Barry Invitational, hosted by St. Norbert
College. Both the men's and women's teams endured the hot weather to place
sixth.
In the women's 5K the Foresters were
once again lead by senior Sarah
Simpson (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) who finished 26th with a time
of 21:25. Senior Michelle
Murillo (Des Plaines, IL/Maine West) was next on the team and 38th
overall. Sophomore Erin
Motzer (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) was 40th, freshman Shana
Gearty (Jamaica Plain, MA/Boston Latin) 47th and sophomore Molly
Sutherland (St. Paul, MN/Visitation) 58th to complete the team's top
five.
The men's team was lead by Junior
Charles
Evans (Asheville, NC/Asheville) who completed the 4 mile course in
16th place with a time of 23:27. Sophomores Eric
Crawley (Braintree, MA/ Thayer), Rob
Bahde (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) and Brandon
Johnson (Phoenix, AZ/Brophy) finished 23rd, 32nd and 39th respectively
and junior
Naresh
Kavuri (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) was fifth on the team and
70th overall.
Head Coach Mike
Wajerski was especially pleased with both teams' fifth runners. "Molly
knew she would be our fifth runner today, with Melissa [Brown] sitting
out with an injury. It's fun to coach athletes that come through when their
team needs them most. Naresh also ran well today, finishing more than two
minutes faster than he did here last year. All a coach can really ask from
runners is that they work hard and improve. Naresh has obviously done that."
Both squads will travel into Wisconsin
for the third consecutive week as they compete in the Concordia University
Invitational next Saturday (September 16th) in Mequon, WI. |
The coaches chose Molly
Sutherland and Naresh Kavuri as the "Runners of the Week."
