Five Lake Forest College Teams in Tournament Play this Weekend
Conference tourney play for basketball and hockey, nationals for handball

 
 
 
 
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester basketball and hockey teams have qualified for their respective conference tournaments and post-season play for all four squads will begin this weekend (February 26-28). Lake Forest's handball teams are also in Houston, Texas, defending their United States Handball Association national titles.
                                                                                          
The Forester women's hockey team (17-2-4, 11-1-4 NCHA) clinched its first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association championship Friday night by defeating visiting Concordia University Wisconsin 3-1. Lake Forest will host Finlandia University, the league's #8 seed, in a two-game quarterfinal series this weekend. The teams will face off in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse at 7:00 Saturday night and 2:00 Sunday afternoon with a 20-minute mini-game to be played after Sunday's contest, if necessary. Tickets are available at the door for $8 (adult) or $4 (students/youth/seniors 62 and older). If the Foresters win, the league's four-team O'Brien Cup Tournament will also be held at the College the weekend of March 5-7.

Lake Forest's men's hockey team (8-14-2, 8-10-2 MCHA) earned the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association South Division's #3 seed and will travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering, the division's #2 seed, for a two-game quarterfinal series this weekend. Saturday night's game will begin at 7:05 and the teams will return to the Kern Center ice at 4:00 the following afternoon. A 20-minute mini-game will be played after Sunday's contest, if necessary. The winner of the series will travel to league champion Adrian College for the Harris Cup Four Tournament the next weekend (March 5-6).

The Forester basketball teams will both be playing in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament at St. Norbert College this weekend. The men (14-9, 12-4 MWC), winners of eight games in a row and 12 of their last 13 contests, will face Carroll University in the semifinals at 1:30 Friday afternoon. The women (15-8, 11-5 MWC) will follow with their semifinal against Ripon College at 3:30 p.m. The men's final is set for 3:00 Saturday afternoon and the women's for 6:00 that evening. All tourney games will be played in St. Norbert's Schuldes Center and all-day passes will be available for $5 (adults) or $3 (children). Saturday's winners will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins on March 5.

Finally, Lake Forest's handball teams will be competing in the U.S.H.A. Collegiate National Tournament in Houston, Texas, at the Houston Downtown YMCA. Last year's Foresters claimed the women's, men's, and combined team championships for the third time in program history and Lake Forest will be among the favorites for this year's titles. Play will begin Wednesday evening and continue throughout the weekend. Results will be available nightly on the U.S.H.A. Web site.
