Offensive Coordinator Grant Blaney
Coach Blaney, one the most successful high school coaches in Illinois state history, brings 42 years of coaching experience (the last eight at the collegiate level) with him to Lake Forest.

Blaney is set to start his third year on the Forester's staff (1998-present) and fourth overall (1991, 1998-present) with Lake Forest. In 1991, Blaney was the offensive coordinator for then head coach and current running backs coach Mike Dau.

While coaching the Forester quarterbacks in 1998 and 1999, Blaney primarily tutored 2000 graduate Tom Dranger, whose two-year totals included nearly 3,000 total yards (1,941 yards passing and 900 yards rushing) and 28 touchdowns (13 passing and 15 rushing). Under Blaney's direction, Dranger was named Honorable Mention All-Conference in 1999, the first Lake Forest quarterback to be named All-Conference since 1993.

Blaney established his coaching career at Buffalo Grove High School, where his teams won six conference titles, made seven appearances in the Illinois state playoffs, and won the 1986 Class 6A title. His 111-54 overall record at BGHS also included two state final four appearances (1984 and 1985) and a state runner-up team in 1979.

Blaney has been honored as the Mid-Suburban Conference Coach of the year five times and once as the Illinois Coaches Association State Coach of the Year. Four times, he has coached in the East-West Shrine game and twice in the North/South Suburban All-Star Game. From 1983-86, Blaney served his fellow coaches as a member of the IHSA Football Advisory Board. In 1990, Blaney was inducted into the Illinois State Football Coaches Hall of Fame.

Immediately preceding his second stint with Lake Forest, Blaney was an assistant coach Harper Community College for six years, serving as the defensive backs coach (1992) and the quarterbacks coach and strength and conditioning coordinator (1993-97).

Prior to his head coaching career at BGHS, Blaney was an assistant coach at Wheeling High School for five years and Thornridge High School for eight years.

Blaney received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Iowa State University, his Master of Science in Physical Education from Indiana University, and his Administrators Certificate from Northern Illinois University.

Blaney and his wife, Barbera, reside in Barrington, IL.
