Brent Becker Takes Over the Reigns of the Forester Football Program

LAKE FOREST, IL – Lake Forest College Athletic Director Jackie Slaats officially announced Thursday (January 27) that defensive coordinator Brent Becker will take over as interim head coach of the Forester football team for 2005. The school will conduct a national search for a permanent head coach following next season and Becker is expected to be among the finalists for the position.

Lake Forest posted a 17-5 overall record in Becker’s two successful seasons as the team’s defensive coordinator. His units ranked among the national leaders in various statistical categories and surrendered fewer points than any other team in the league each of his two years. In addition, a Forester was named MWC Defensive Player of the Year both seasons.

Prior to coming to Lake Forest, Becker served as an assistant coach at Knox College (1998), Greenville College (1999-00), and Saginaw Valley State University (2001-02). His teams have posted a combined record of 52-24 and he has yet to suffer through a losing season in his seven years of coaching.

Becker replaces Chad Eisele, who coached the Foresters for the last five seasons and recently accepted the head coaching position at Minnesota State University Moorhead.

“Given the timing of Coach Eisele’s resignation,” began Slaats, “we decided that the program would be best served by promoting from within. I was extremely proud and fortunate to have such a talented person already on staff in Coach Becker and he and I both look forward to the team’s continued success.”

“I’ve been around winning programs all my life and am honored to have the opportunity to direct this one here at Lake Forest,” stated Becker. “I hope to build upon the accomplishments of the last few seasons and lead the Foresters to an even more successful future.”
