Coaching Staff
The 2008 season will be the fourth for Brent Becker as head coach at Lake Forest College. He also served as the Foresters' defensive coordinator in 2003 and 2004. In his first five seasons with the program, Lake Forest posted a combined record of 29-21 and placed as high as third in the Midwest Conference twice. The Foresters finished the 2007 season with five victories in their last six games. The squad was 5-5 overall and 5-4 in Midwest Conference play, tied for fourth in the 10-team league standings. Lake Forest averaged more than 32 points per game during the final six weeks of the year and finished with the third-highest scoring average in team history. The 2007 Foresters also set a single-season school record for passing touchdowns and ranked second in program history in passing yards per game. Quarterback Jeff Ziemnik paced the Midwest Conference in 2007 with 274.1 yards of total offense per game and Justin Ellerman led the league and ranked fifth in the country with 42.2 yards per punt. Lake Forest had three of the top nine receivers in the conference, including Dan Carter, who is already the program's career leader with 22 touchdown receptions after just two seasons. Forester players earned 14 All-Midwest Conference selections in 2007, including First Team selections Tim Paulsen, Matt Lawler, and Dan Carter. Lake Forest has garnered 35 all-conference selections, including eight first teamers, in Becker's three seasons as head coach. Lake Forest forced 57 turnovers and sacked the quarterback 69 times in Becker's two seasons as defensive coordinator. The unit led the conference in several categories during that span and ranked as high as 15th in the country against the run (2003) and 17th in scoring (2004). He coached 10 defensive players to a total of 14 All-MWC selections, including six First Team accolades. In addition, defensive lineman David Bleitner was named MWC Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-American honors in both 2003 and 2004. Safety Drew Holman was also an All-American selection in 2004. Individual Foresters have set or tied 13 school records under Becker's direction. Last year Ziemnik tied the mark with four touchdown passes in a game and shattered the previous record with 20 scoring tosses on the season. He also matched the single-season mark with 187 completions and graduated as the program's career leader by completing 58 percent of his passes and posting a 130.35 quarterback efficiency rating. Jeff Huebner set one record with 1,002 receiving yards in 2005 and tied another with 12 touchdown catches that season. He and Carter, the Foresters' leader with 22 career touchdown catches after just two years, both matched the mark with three scoring receptions in a game. Bleitner's 15.5 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss in 2003 are both program bests and the 49.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage he tallied in his career also ranked first until Louis Bertuca finished with 50. Holman holds the other mark with seven interceptions in 2004. Prior to coming to Lake Forest, Becker served as an assistant coach at Knox College (1998), Greenville College (1999-00), and Saginaw Valley State University (2001-02). In seven years as an assistant coach his teams had a combined record of 52-24 and did not suffer a losing season. Becker earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in elementary education from Knox College and a Master's Degree in education leadership from Saginaw Valley State University. During the summer Becker directs a Nike Football Camp at the College. Becker resides in Vernon Hills with his wife Jessica and son Zachary. Becker's Year-by-Year Record as an Assistant and Head Coach
