JIM SMITH NAMED NATIONAL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

On Thursday morning, Lake Forest College freshman Jim Smith (Chicago, IL/Mount Carmel High School) was named the NCAA Division III Rookie of the Week by USA Football. The 5-10, 200 pound rookie totaled 282 yards of offense during a 43-38 loss to Ripon on Saturday (Oct. 9). He caught five passes for a team-high 136 yards, rushed 14 times for 87 yards (6.2 yards/carry) and a touchdown, and returned two kick-offs for 59 yards, also a team-high. He became the first Forester this season to have over 100 yards receiving in a game. Smith shared the honor with John Cupples, a linebacker from Moravian, and Matt Simpson, a quarterback from Plymouth State College.
Pat Dunne, a sophomore punter and kicker from Chicago, IL (Marist H.S.), was named to the Special Teams Honor Roll after tying a school record with three fields last Saturday (Oct. 9).
Each week, USA Football selects a player of the week from each of the following categories: Offensive, Defensive, Rookie, and Special Teams.
