Lake Forest Posts MWC Runner-Up Finishes at Two of Three Doubles Positions
Joe Campagna finishes his career with a program record 128 overall victories

MADISON, Wis. - The Forester men's tennis team completed its 2010 season at the Midwest Conference Doubles Tournaments at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wisconsin, on Sunday (May 2). Lake Forest had placed second in the MWC Team Championship Tournament two days earlier and also finished Saturday's singles competition and Sunday's doubles play with 61 points, the second-highest total in the league. Grinnell College claimed the league title on Friday and finished the weekend with 102 points. Lawrence University was third with 60.

Forester senior Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) and junior Chris Paterakos (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier), the 2009 conference champions at #3 doubles, were the runners-up this year at #2. They recorded a 6-4, 6-4 quarterfinal victory and a 6-1, 7-6 win in the semifinals before falling 6-4, 6-2 in the title match. The duo posted a 23-6 record on the year and a mark of 47-12 together in their careers. They set new program records for single-season and career victories by a doubles team. Campagna is also Lake Forest's all-time leader with 67 doubles wins and 128 triumphs overall in his career.

While Campagna owns the career record for singles and doubles victories combined, freshman John Adams (Colorado Springs, Colo./ Cheyenne Mountain) set the single-season mark this spring. He and classmate Kevin Lasky (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) won 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and 6-4, 7-6 in the semifinals at #3. They were defeated 6-1, 6-1 in the final but still finished the year with a mark of 18-8. Adams also won once with a different partner and his team record 25 singles victories gave him 44 overall wins on the season.

After collecting a gold medal and five silvers on the weekend, Lake Forest was voted the league's Team Sportsmanship Award winner after's Sunday's competition.

The Foresters won a program record 20 matches on the season against just five losses. Campagna is the only player the team will lose to graduation next Saturday.
