TEN FORESTERS GARNER ALL-CONFERENCE DISTINCTIONS

At the Midwest Conference Championship Meet hosted by Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, over the weekend, a Lake Forest swimmer or relay team was victorious in 50% of the men's events (10 out of 20) and 60% (12 out of 20) of the women's events. All told, ten Foresters won at least one event and were named All-Conference.

Junior Karie Schuenke (Quincy, IL) and sophomore Randi Estes (LaBelle, FL) each won three individual and three relay events, and shared Conference Female Swimmer of the Year honors. Schuenke prevailed in the 100 back, 200 back, and 400 IM, while Estes won the 200 free, 200 fly, and 200 IM. The pair combined with Kara Esicar (Hannibal, MO) and Erin Motzer (Libertyville, IL) to win the 400 free and 400 medley relays, and with Motzer and Lark Mills (Arlington, TX) to win the 800 free relay. Motzer, who claimed a total of four conference titles in her first conference meet, also won the 1650 free. Esicar won two individual events - the 50 free and 200 breast.

Senior Rob Edgell (Alsager, England), the 2000 MWC Male Swimmer of the Year, led the men's squad with four titles, including three individual events (100 free, 200 free, and 200 IM). Edgell teamed with Brandon Johnson (Phoenix, AZ), Steve Williams (Leawood, KS), and Joe Zemaitis (Scottsdale, AZ) to win the 400 medley relay. Johnson also won the 200 back, Williams the 100 and 200 breast, and Zemaitis the 200 fly. Diver Marcus Collins (Milwaukee, WI) won both diving events (1- and 3-meter).

Both men's and women's teams finished in third place, behind Lawrence and Grinnell. Lawrence won the men's championship while Grinnell captured the women's title. A lack of depth hindered both teams. The Forester men competed with just 9 swimmers and 2 divers, while the women had 10 swimmers and 1 diver.
