As they did on Friday, the Lake Forest women began Saturday's competition with a school record performance in a relay. Freshmen Amber Kerrigan (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) and Becky Shaak (Vienna, Va./James Madison) teamed with sophomores Ellen Stoehr (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Emily Watts (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) for a 200-medley relay time of 1:51.62. Watts anchored the relay with a 50-freestyle split of 24.29 seconds, faster than the program record in that individual event. The Forester men's 200-medley relay team finished in third place, just .57 seconds behind first-place Grinnell and .49 seconds in back of runner-up Lawrence. Shaak set her second individual conference record in the 400-individual medley. Her time of 4:34.04 was more than nine seconds ahead of the runner-up from Carroll University. It was also a B-Cut qualifying time for the national meet. Junior Lisa Carpenter (Edina, Minn./Edina) finished seventh in the event in 5:07.82. Freshmen J.J. Conoscenti (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach), Raphael Joly (Avon Colo./Battle Mountain), and Jacob Albion (Fort Myers, Fla./Canterbury School) placed third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, in the men's 400-IM. Their best times of the day (prelims and finals) were 4:28.17, 4:30.61, and 4:29.94, respectively. Stoehr claimed her first individual conference title in the 100-butterfly where her time of 1:00.05 ranks her fourth in team history. Junior Mike Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) was the runner-up in the men's 100-butterfly and his time of 52.83 seconds moves him from fifth to third in program history in that event. Freshman Kelsey Hoeper (Medford, Ore./South Medford) placed second, sophomore Amy Finn (Horsham Pa./Archbishop Wood) third, Watts fourth, and sophomore Jennifer Steege (Hudson, Wis./Visitation) eighth in the 200-freestlyle. Watts' prelim time of 1:59.57 was actually the fastest time of the day in the event. Hoeper and Steege were also faster in the prelims at 1:59.72 and 2:03.85, resepctively, while Finn trimmed more than a second off her prelim time with a 2:00.97 in the finals. Freshman Michael Tunzi (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick) posted the Forester men's team's first individual victory at the meet with a time of 1:48.00 in the men's 200-freestyle. Classmate Chris Wiatr (Long Grove, Ill./Stevenson) was sixth in 1:49.39. Junior Whitney Hales (New Iberia, La./Episcopal School of Acadinda) placed eighth in the women's 100-breaststroke in 1:15.10. The Lake Forest men made it back-to-back victories when freshman Alex Marks (Oregon, Ill./Oregon) won the 100-breaststroke in a conference record and NCAA B-Cut qualifying time of 57.58 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of anyone else at the meet. Classmate Stamen Tintikov (Chicago Ill./Lane Tech) was fifth in the event with a time of 1:02.78 and senior Derek Atchley (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) eighth in 1:04.72. The Forester women had three of the top five finishers in the 100-backstroke. Stoehr was second in 1:01.70, Kerrigan fourth in 1:03.26, and freshman Meghan Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek) fifth in 1:03.94. Mackin placed second for the second time on the day in the 100-backstroke. He finished the finals in 52.38 seconds, just .18 seconds behind the winner, but actually set a new meet record of 52.09 in the prelims. He joined Marks as a B-Cut qualifier for the national meet and now ranks second in team history in the event. Freshman Diego Ledesma (Chicago Ill./Lane Tech) finished fifth in 55.97 seconds. The women's 3-meter diving was held before the final swimming events of the night. Freshman Samantha Gardner (Breckenridge, Colo./Summit) was the runner-up with 400.85 points and sophomore Jade Perkins (Denver, Colo./JK Mullen) was next with 398.05. Freshman Alyx Smagacz (Palos Park, Ill./Stagg) and Chandler Foster (Ypsilanti, Mich./Mercy) placed seventh (305.75) and eighth (299.35), respectively. The Foresters finished the day by sweeping the 800-freestyle relay in convincing fashion. Hoeper, Watts, Finn, and Shaak set a new conference record with a time of 7:57.00, more than six seconds ahead of runner-up Grinnell. Shaak anchored the relay with a split of 1:53.73, more than three seconds faster than the 200-freestyle conference record . Tunzi, Wiatr, Marks, and Mackin finished in 7:10.94, nearly six seconds before Grinnell. The final six events that will be contested on Sunday are the 1650-freestyle, 200-backstroke, 100-freestlye, 200-breaststroke, 200-butterfly, and 400-freestyle relay.
