End Forester Swimming Season on a Positive Note
The men's team totaled six top-six finishes and had three swimmers record season-best times. Brady Lowdermilk (Parker, CO/Regis) did so twice as he finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (54.18) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (56.44). The team's top points scorer this season, Eric Boarini (Wadsworth, IL/Carmel), placed second and third, respectively, in the 50- (22.46) and 200-yard (1:48.34) freestyle events. Jeremy Koop (Newton, KS/Newton) was fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (57.22), and his season-best time of 1:05.30 was good for tenth place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Finally, Brandon Johnson (Phoenix, AZ/Brophy) cut almost two seconds off his previous best time in the 100-yard backstroke to finish sixth in 56.69. The sole winner for Lake Forest was first-year swimmer Emily Woods (Signal Mountain, TN/Girls Prep), who claimed first place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.35) and fourth in the 200-yard butterfly. Her time of 2:14.00 in the preliminaries of the 200 was more than four seconds faster than her previous best and was the Foresters' top time this season. Junior Erin Poynter (Fort Collins, CO/Ft. Collins) recorded a season-best time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.61), adding a thirteenth place to her sixth and eighth place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley, respectively. Closing out the scoring for the Forester women was Ellen Lillegard (Gardnerville, NV/Douglas), who placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:50.08). The Foresters showed improvement
throughout the 2001-02 season and concluded with a feeling of optimism.
The men's team had a 4-2 dual meet record and finished third at the Midwest
Conference Championship Meet. The women were 2-4 in dual meets and also
placed third in the conference meet. Both teams lose only one senior,
and Head Coach Alec Webster believes they are just a few swimmers away
from their goal of winning next year's conference championships.
