CHICAGO, Ill. - Select Forester swimmers competed at the University of Chicago's Midwest Invitational over the weekend (February 26-27). Although team scores were not the focus of the meet, Lake Forest's women placed second and the men fourth.

Freshman Becky Shaak (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was the first Forester to compete on Friday and the lone competitor in the women's 200-IM. Her time of 2:14.39 places her fifth in team history.

The next notable performance by a Forester was a runner-up time of 24.89 seconds in the 50-freestyle by sophomore Emily Watts (Danville, Ind./Danville Community). She now ranks third in team history in that event.

On Saturday Shaak set her fourth Midwest Conference record of the year in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:55.16. It was also an NCAA B-Cut qualifying time.

A few events later freshman Alex Marks (Oregon, Ill./Oregon) won the 100-breaststroke in 58.37 seconds.

The next men's event was the 100-backstroke and Mike Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) prevailed with a conference record time of 51.90 seconds. He improved on his NCAA B-Cut qualifying mark.

Marks posted his second victory of the competition in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:07.19.

Shaak, Mackin, and Marks will find out next Friday (March 5) whether they will be competing in the NCAA Division III championship meet March 17-20.
