LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College Athletic Director Jackie Slaats announced on Wednesday (July 16) that Head Swimming & Diving Coach Dan Shelley is resigning after two years with the program. He will be moving to Hong Kong later in the summer to pursue new personal and professional opportunities. A national search will begin immediately to fill the open position.

Shelley directed the men’s team to third-place finishes at each of the last two Midwest Conference Championship Meets, extending the program’s streak of finishing among the top three in the league to 25 years. The women’s team placed fifth in 2007 and sixth in 2008 before placing among the top 30 in the nation both seasons. Individual Foresters have claimed a dozen conference titles in the last two seasons and the teams added six relay championships. His student-athletes were also named Academic All-MWC 18 times.

“This was a difficult decision for me as I have truly enjoyed my two years here,” began Shelley. “I will greatly miss the student-athletes, my fellow coaches, and the rest of the campus community. I have nothing but good things to say about Lake Forest College and I look forward to cheering on the Foresters in the future.”

“I’m sad to see Dan leave and the timing of his departure is difficult,” stated Slaats. “However, I’m thankful for his efforts over the last two years and certainly wish him well in his future endeavors.”
