Becky Shaak Named Forester Athlete of the Week for the Second Time This Season
Freshman finished 12th in the nation in the 1650-freestyle

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College swimmer Becky Shaak (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (March 25) for her performance at the NCAA Division III Championship Meet the previous weekend (March 17-20).

Shaak, a freshman, competed in the 500-freestyle on Wednesday and 400-IM on Thursday and did not advance to the finals after placing 33rd and 27th, respectively, in the preliminary heats. After a day off on Friday, she won her heat and placed 12th overall in Saturday’s 1650-freestyle to earn All-American honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. She finished in a school and conference record time of 17:12.55 and also broke another team and league mark during the race with a 1000-freestyle split of 10:21.56.

In addition to her records set at the NCAA Championships, Shaak finished her first season as a Forester with school and conference marks in the 200-freestyle, 500-freestyle, and 400-IM.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Shaak also earned the award on November 12.
