Becky Shaak Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Freshman set MWC record in the 1000-freestlye

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College swimmer Becky Shaak (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (November 12) for her performance in a pair of dual meets the previous weekend (November 6-7).

Shaak, a freshman, began the weekend by finishing first in two individual events in a 104-101 loss to visiting Carthage College. She won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:32.13 and the 400-meter freestyle in 4:35.12. Shaak also swam a leg on the runner-up 200-meter medley relay team that finished in 2:11.28.

On Saturday the Foresters prevailed 112-69 at Monmouth College and Shaak broke the school and Midwest Conference record in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 10:34.27. She also swam on the winning 200-medley relay team (1:57.27).

Shaak has won five of six individual events and has participated on a pair of winning relay teams in three dual meets so far this season. Her record-breaking time in the 1000-freestyle also ranks seventh in the nation so far this year.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
