Foresters Split Four Matches at Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational
Team defeats Alverno College and North Central University

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Lake Forest College volleyball team split a pair of matches both Friday and Saturday (August 29-30) at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational. The Foresters opened the season by defeating Alverno College 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 before falling 21-25, 25-15, 25-8, 25-18 to North Park University on Friday. The team began Saturday with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-14 triumph over North Central University and finished it with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-23 loss to the hosts. North Park was the only undefeated (4-0) squad at the six-team event and Lake Forest was one of two programs tied for third at 2-2.

Senior Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) led the Foresters with nine kills against Alverno and she added a career-high 14 digs. Sophomore Deena Blanchard (Sparta, Mich./Sparta) led the squad with 11 assists and matched junior Nicole Leonard's (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Chaminade College Prep.) team-high four aces. Senior Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) tallied 24 digs.

Cretacci finished with 11 kills and Blacnard with 11 assists against North Park. Sturgill matched her total from the first match with 24 digs.

The Foresters posted a .341 hitting percentage against North Central and were once again led in kills by Cretacci with 16. Sophomore Mandi Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) was next with 15 and the two combined for a .500 hitting percentage. Blanchard had 13 assists, Mulliner recorded a career-high five aces and Leonard four. Sturgill added another 17 digs.

Cretacci's 11 kills led Lake Forest against Wisconsin Lutheran and she matched her career-high from the day before with 14 digs. Senior Ashleigh Martinez (Chula Vista, Calif./Hilltop) had a dozen assists and a pair of aces and Sturgill broke her own 3-set school record with 37 digs. After recording just one block in each of their first three matches, the Foresters had nine in the fourth with Mulliner having a hand in seven of them, including three solos.

Team leaders for the weekend included Cretacci with 47 kills, Blanchard with 42 assists, Leonard with eight aces, Sturgill with 102 digs, and Mulliner with nine blocks.

Lake Forest will travel to Wheaton College Tuesday (September 2) for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
