Lake Forest Falls to Wartburg in NCAA Tournament
Metzger leads team with 17 kills and 25 digs

Stephanie Metzger led the team in kills and digs on Thursday and throughout the season.
ST. LOUIS, MO - The Forester volleyball team's 2003 season finally came to an end Thursday (November 13) in the first round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. Wartburg College defeated Lake Forest 30-25, 31-29, 18-30, 30-22 to advance to Friday's regional semifinals, where it will face Central College (IA). The Foresters fell to 21-12 on the season while Wartburg raised its mark to 29-10.

Senior Stephanie Metzger (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) led Lake Forest with 17 kills and 25 digs. She finished the year with 408 kills, the third-highest total in team history, and a school record 599 digs. Classmate Jenna Harper (St. Louis, MO/Clayton) was next on the squad with 14 kills and had just four errors in 30 attempts for a .333 hitting percentage. She tied with freshman Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) for the team lead with three blocks. Balcerzak tallied 11 kills in the match.

In addition to Metzger, four other Foresters reached double figures in digs. Sophomore Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) tallied 21, junior Amy Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) recorded 18, senior Jenny Anderson (Sebastopol, CA/El Molino) had 13, and junior Andrea Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) added a dozen, along with 52 assists and four aces.

Metzger, Harper, and Anderson are the team's only seniors. Anderson is the program's all-time leader in both career kills and digs and ranks second in aces and eighth in blocks. Metzger, the only other player in school history with at least 1,000 digs and kills, ranks second and third, respectively, in those categories, sixth in blocks and seventh in aces. Harper is third in career blocks and 10 th in kills. The Foresters have posted an 85-45 record in their four years on the team.
