Lake Forest Falls to Monmouth in MWC Tournament Quarterfinals

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Forester volleyball team fell 30-20, 30-22, 30-27 to Monmouth College Friday (November 2) in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament, hosted by Carroll College. Lake Forest finished the 2007 season with a 9-18 record while 19-11 Monmouth advances to take on St. Norbert College in the semifinals.

Freshman Mandi Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) led the Foresters with 10 kills in the match, followed by junior Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) with eight. Junior Ashleigh Martinez (Chula Vista, Calif./Hilltop) recorded 24 assists.

Defensively, senior Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) and junior Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) tied for team-high honors with a dozen digs apiece and sophomore Regina Cyvas (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) added 10.

It was the final career match for Martin and fellow senior Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy), the program’s all-time leader in kills and blocks. The two combined for 1,858 kills, 207 aces, 1,811 digs, and 529 blocks over the last four seasons.
