November 3rd, 2001 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Foresters Win Third Consecutive MWC Championship
On Friday (November 2nd), Lake Forest's first round opponent was Carroll College, who they defeated in four games (30-26, 24-30, 30-24, 30-20). Leading the attack were seniors Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic), who tallied 20 kills and 18 digs, and Leslie Boyle (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic), who recorded 59 assists and added 14 digs. Sophomore Jenny Anderson (Sebastopol, CA/El Molino) also posted impressive numbers with 15 kills and 13 digs and senior Angela Lagerman (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) had 10 kills and 11 blocks. In Saturday's semifinal, the Foresters defeated Lawrence University in three games (30-15, 30-28, 30-28). Reinboldt again led the squad with 16 and added 5 blocks. Anderson had 10 kills and a team-high 14 digs while Boyle recorded another 48 assists. In Saturday's championship match against St. Norbert, Anderson set a Forester season-high with 23 kills and Boyle matched her season-high in assists with 63. Other noteworthy statistics from the match include Reinboldt's 16 kills and 17 digs, giving her 52 and 41 for the weekend. Sophomore Stephanie Metzger (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) had her best match of the tournament with 15 kills and 13 digs and Lagerman added another 13 kills and 10 blocks to her totals. Along with the conference championship comes the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament, which will begin on Thursday (November 8th). The Midwest Regional will be hosted by UW-Whitewater and the Foresters' first-round match will be against Benedictine University and will begin at 7:30 pm. Benedictine and Lake Forest are seeded #4 and #5, respectively, in the tournament. The winner will take on top-seeded UW-Whitewater on Friday. LF
