Foresters Fall to St. Norbert in MWC Tournament Quarterfinals
Kendra Casey reaches 1,000 assist mark for second straight season

Beloit, Wis. - The Lake Forest College volleyball team concluded its 2006 season with a 30-23, 30-17, 35-33 loss to St. Norbert College Friday (November 3) in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament. The Foresters fell to 14-15 on the year while the Green Knights raised their mark to 23-11.

Forester senior Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) had 30 assists in the contest and finished the year with 1,018. It was her second straight season with at least 1,000.

Junior Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) led the team with 12 kills and six blocks, including three solos. She led Lake Forest with 390 kills on the year and set single-season school record with 136 total blocks and 65 solos.

Junior Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) was next on the squad with nine kills and, with a dozen digs, she was one of three Foresters to reach double figures in that category. Freshman Lindsey Grauman (St. Paul, Minn./Visitation) recorded 17 and sophomore Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) led the team with 18 in the match and 646 on the season.

Senior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) recorded the team’s only two aces in the match and finished her career with a school record 216. She was second on the 2006 team with 341 kills and tallied 1,305 in her career, the second-highest total in team history.

It was the 15th year in a row that the Foresters won at least 14 matches.
