Lake Forest Claims Second Straight MWC Volleyball Championship
Foresters defeat St. Norbert in four games in title match

MONMOUTH, IL - For the second straight season and for the third time in four years, Lake Forest College is the Midwest Conference volleyball champion.

The Foresters rolled through Ripon College in three games, Carroll College (WI) in three games, and St. Norbert College in four games to claim this year's title and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.

Lake Forest's first round opponent in the national tournament will be announced on Sunday evening. The Foresters drew the sixth seed last season and advanced to the round of 32 by winning their first round match over Calvin College.

At this year's MWC Championship Tournament, which was hosted by Monmouth College in Monmouth, IL, Lake Forest, playing from the South Division's top seed after a perfect 4-0 regular season, drew Ripon for their first match on Friday. The Red Hawks knocked off Knox College in the first round.

The Foresters disposed of Ripon, 15-1, 15-5, 15-3, in impressive fashion. Lake Forest got 10 kills apiece from junior middle blockers Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic) and Angela Lagerman (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) in the match, while freshman Jenny Anderson (Sebastopol, CA/El Molino) added five kills and four aces, and Sarah Frantz (Lake Geneva, WI/Badger) had 32 assists and seven digs. The Foresters hit .465 as a team for the match, including a .778 hitting percentage in the first game.

During Saturday's semifinal match, the Foresters knocked off Carroll, 15-3, 15-9, 15-10. Three players recorded 10 or more kills. Amanda Taylor (Chico, CA/Pleasant Valley), Anderson, and Lagerman both notched double digit kills, led by Anderson's 12. Anderson and Taylor both added nine digs and Lagerman had five blocks. Frantz contributed 41 assists.

Lake Forest, led by a school-record 68 assists from Frantz, rolled past St. Norbert, 15-11, 13-15, 15-7, 15-8, in the championship match. Four players recorded 10 or more kills, including two players (Anderson with 20 and Reinboldt with 21), with 20 or more kills.

After hitting just .167 in the second game, LF responded with team hitting percentages of .386 and .424 during games three and four.

Frantz broke her own school record of 65 assists, set in 1999 versus Grinnell College.

Lake Forest concludes the regular season with a 23-5 overall record. The team's 23 wins are the most since 1988, when the Foresters compiled a school-record 27 wins versus eight losses.
