Foresters Come Back to Defeat Chicago in Five Games
Team evens record on the year at 11-11

Lake Forest, Ill. - The Lake Forest College volleyball team hosted and defeated the University of Chicago 30-28, 21-30, 28-30, 30-27, 15-10 Tuesday (October 10) night. The Foresters evened their record on the year at 11-11 while the Maroons fell to 4-20.

Senior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) led the home team with 17 kills and a .424 hitting percentage. She also added two aces and is now just two shy of the program’s career record of 209. Juniors Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) and Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) were next on the squad with 14 and 13 kills, respectively, and Baich added a pair of aces. Senior setter Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) recorded 44 assists and a team-high three aces.

Balcerzak also led the Foresters with five blocks, including three solos, and Baich had three. Sophomore Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) led the squad with 23 digs and Martin added 14.

The Foresters will travel to Beloit College on Saturday (October 14) for the Midwest Conference Crossover II. The team will take on Lawrence University at 10:00 a.m. and defending league champion St. Norbert College at 2:00 p.m.
