Foresters Fall in Five Games at University of Chicago
Baich and Balcerzak combine for 38 kills and 16 blocks

MONMOUTH, IL - The Lake Forest College volleyball team dropped a five-game decision at the University of Chicago Tuesday (October 11) night. The Foresters won the first game 30-26, fell by the same score in the second, and lost 30-27 in the third. The team drew even with a 30-24 triumph in game four before the Maroons pulled out a 15-12 victory in game five. Lake Forest is now 15-9 this season and Chicago is 8-14.

Sophomore Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) led the Foresters with 20 kills and matched a season-high with nine blocks, four of which were solos. Junior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) finished just behind Baich on the scoresheet with 18 kills and a career-high seven blocks (also 4 solos). The duo lead Lake Forest with 303 and 278 kills this season, respectively. Senior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) and junior Savanna Shumaker (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) chipped in with 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Junior Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West) tallied 55 assists in the contest and added a team-high three aces. She was also one of five Foresters to reach double figures in digs with 11. Miller led the squad with 30 digs, freshman Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan South) was next with 20, sophomore Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) had a dozen, and freshman Lindsay Olmstead (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) matched Casey’s 11.

Lake Forest recorded a season-high 16 blocks in the match, including eight solos.

The Foresters will put their 5-1 Midwest Conference record on the line at fellow league member Knox College on Friday (October 14). The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
