Home Team Wins Two of Three in Lake Forest Quadrangular
Foresters defeat Illinois Wesleyan and North Park, fall to Aurora

Lisa Sturgill's 427 digs are already the program's sixth-highest single-season total.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester volleyball team hosted three schools on Saturday (October 1) and finished the day with a pair of victories. The home team knocked off Illinois Wesleyan University 30-28, 30-20, 30-23 in the morning before falling 30-24, 30-17, 32-30 to Aurora University in its second match of the day. The Foresters then defeated North Park University 30-25, 30-25, 30-23 and are now 13-7 on the season. Illinois Wesleyan fell to 7-10 on the year. Aurora, which also defeated North Park in the morning, is 8-11 and North Park is 5-14.

Senior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) led Lake Forest with a dozen kills against Illinois Wesleyan and shared team-high honors with 16 digs. Sophomore Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) led the squad with six blocks and a career-high seven aces. Junior Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West) tallied 27 assists and freshman Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan South) matched Miller with 16 digs. Sophomore Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) chipped in with 13 digs and freshman Lindsay Olmstead (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) matched her career-high with three aces.

Junior Janelle Balcerzak’s (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) 11 kills led the Foresters against Aurora. Baich pounded out 10 kills and added a team-high three blocks. Casey recorded 36 assists in the contest and Sturgill had 19 digs. Miller and Martin also reached double figures in digs with 15 and 13, respectively.

Sturgill, who set a school record with 28 digs in a three-game match on Tuesday (September 27) against UW-Whitewater, shattered that mark with 34 against North Park. Miller was next on the team with 27 and Olmstead added a dozen. Balcerzak and Baich led the squad with 11 kills each and Miller chipped in with 10. Baich also recorded seven blocks in the match and Balcerzak had three. Casey tallied 41 assists, her second-highest three-game total of the year.

Balcerzak led the team with 31 kills and a .277 hitting percentage on the day. Baich paced the squad with 16 blocks and eight aces, Casey dished out 104 assists, and Sturgill recorded 69 digs.

The Foresters, who lead the Midwest Conference standings with a 3-0 league record, will play their first MWC home match of the year Tuesday (October 4) night at 7:00 against Monmouth College. The team will continue conference play next Saturday (October 8) as it takes on both Lawrence University and Beloit College during the MWC Crossover II at Monmouth.
