Lake Forest Takes MWC Opener in Three Games
Foresters claim 14th straight win over a conference opponent

LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College defeated visiting Grinnell College in three games (15-6, 15-13, 15-10) on Saturday (October 14th) in the Midwest Conference opener for the Foresters.

For Lake Forest (16-5, 1-0 MWC South), the win was the 14th straight over a Midwest Conference opponent. The last Lake Forest loss to an league school came on the opening day of the 1998 MWC Tournament when Carroll College (WI) knocked off the Foresters in four games.

Equally as impressive, it has been over a year since Lake Forest has dropped even a game to a league school. Grinnell grabbed a game from Lake Forest on September 25th, 1999 during a four-game LF victory.

Grinnell (7-20, 1-1 MWC South) lost for the first time this season in league play.

The Foresters jumped out to early leads in each of the three games.

Junior Angela Lagerman (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) recorded two kills and one solo block to give Lake Forest a 3-0 lead in game one. After Grinnell cut the lead to 3-2, another Lagerman kill gave the Foresters a side out and the team rattled off four straight points (ending with two straight Casey Neave (Trevor, WI/Westosha Central) aces) and eight of the next 10 points in route to an easy 15-6 game one win.

Lake Forest again jumped out to an early lead in the second game by scoring the game's first four points. With the Foresters up 9-2, Grinnell tallied five straight points after a time-out to cut the lead to 9-7, then clawed their way to a 13-12 advantage of their own. Lagerman tied the game at 13 with a kill, which was followed by kills from Neave and Chrissy Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton) to close out the game.

After striking early again (4-0 and 6-1), Lake Forest won the final game, 15-10, to win the match. Lake Forest committed just five hitting errors in the third game and had just 17 hitting errors for the match.

Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic) led the team with 12 kills despite battling the flu. Sarah Frantz contributed 40 assists, while Leslie Boyle (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic) and Katie Clifton (Bloomingdale, IL/Glenbard East) each had 13 digs.

Lake Forest will return to action this Friday (October 20th) for a home match with Knox College, another MWC South Division opponent, at 7:30. Three of Lake Forest's final four regular season games will count in the league standings.
