Lake Forest Defeats Lawrence and St. Norbert at MWC Crossover II
Balcerzak breaks program’s career aces record

Beloit, Wis. - The Forester volleyball team won both of its matches Saturday (October 14) at the second Midwest Conference Crossover of the season. Lake Forest defeated Lawrence University 30-23, 30-22, 30-26 in its first match before knocking off defending league champion St. Norbert College 21-30, 30-22, 30-28, 30-26 later in the day. The Foresters are now 13-11 overall and 5-1 in MWC play this season.

Junior Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) recorded 20 kills against Lawrence, one shy of the school record for a three-game match. She posted a .588 hitting percentage for the match and added three blocks. Sophomore Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) was next on the squad with nine kills and she also had three blocks. Senior Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) tallied 35 assists, junior Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) led the team with three aces, and sophomore Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) paced the squad with 28 digs.

Baich led the Foresters again with 23 kills and three blocks against St. Norbert and senior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) added 18 kills and two blocks. Balcerzak also recorded one ace in the contest, the school record 210th of her career. Casey had 41 assists and Martin led the squad with 23 digs and a career-high seven aces. Sturgill, Casey, and freshman Lindsey Grauman (St. Paul, Minn./Visitation) each chipped in with 15 digs.

The Foresters will continue league play at Monmouth College Thursday (October 19) night at 7:00. They will also host Grinnell College at 1:00 next Saturday (October 21) afternoon.
