Lake Forest Splits Pair of Five-Game MWC Road Matches
Foresters defeat Illinois College on Friday, fall to Monmouth on Saturday

MONMOUTH, IL - The Forester volleyball team took to the road over the weekend (October 15-16) for a pair of Midwest Conference matches. Lake Forest defeated Illinois College 28-30, 30-26, 17-30, 30-21, 15-8 Friday night before falling 21-30, 30-21, 27-30, 34-32, 16-14 to Monmouth College on Saturday. The Foresters are now 15-11 overall and 5-3 in league play.

Senior Amy Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) led both teams with 20 kills on Friday and added 18 digs. Fellow senior DeAnna Bauer (Naperville, IL/Naperville North) also reached double figures in both categories with 13 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) matched her career-high with 17 kills and chipped in three solo blocks. Senior Andrea Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) tallied 57 assists in the match and also recorded three aces and 16 digs. Sophomore Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) had a match-high four aces and, with 61 so far this year, trails the single-season school record by just four. Defensively, junior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) led all players with 34 digs and freshman Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) had 11.

On Saturday, Amy Krueger earned match-high honors with 19 kills and her 18 digs were the third-highest total on the team. She has now reached double figures in both categories in the same match 14 times this season, including each of the team’s last seven contests. Balcerzak and Bauer were next on the squad in kills with 13 and 12, respectively. Andrea Krueger had 57 assists for the second straight match and surpassed the 1,000 mark for the second straight season. Miller again led all players with 32 digs and Martin’s 23 set a new career-high. Baich recorded a match-high eight blocks, including four solos. With 117 on the year, she is just eight shy of the program’s single-season record.

The Foresters will continue their Midwest Conference schedule next Saturday (October 23) at home against Grinnell College (4-24, 0-5 MWC) at 1:00 p.m.
