FORESTERS MOVE TO 3-0 IN THE MWC WITH WIN AT KNOX

A 15-10, 15-11, 15-2 win at Knox on Friday upped the Lake Forest College volleyball team's overall record to 13-9 and, more importantly, 3-0 in the Midwest Conference South Division and one win away from claiming the South's top seed at the MWC Championship Tournament on November 5-6. Lake Forest has dropped just one game thus far in matches versus MWC South Division opponents and will host Illinois College on Saturday, October 30th. The match-up will feature the last two MWC champions. Lake Forest won the school's first conference title in 1997, while IC is the defending champion. A win Saturday would ensure the Foresters a number one seed in this season's tournament.
Against Knox, Amanda Taylor led a balanced offensive attack with 11 kills. She also contributed 4 blocks. Sarah Frantz dished out 30 assists and added 5 aces and 8 digs, while Angela Lagerman had 5 blocks, and Jessie Griffin 11 digs. As a team the Foresters had .318 hitting percentage, including a .611 hitting percentage in game three, and pounded 12 aces. Head Coach Beth Pier was pleased with her team's effort; "We played very well as a team tonight. Every player out there fulfilled her role and got better as the match went on. The biggest difference was the way we controlled the net. Sarah made good decisions distributing the ball and they had a tough time with our quick offense. Our hitters were often hitting against one blocker or no blockers and the result was a high hitting percentage."
Before Lake Forest's regular season finale with Illinois College on Saturday, the Foresters will host Barat on Wednesday (Oct. 27) and Illinois Wesleyan on Friday (Oct. 29).
