Lake Forest Defeats Knox on Friday, Wins Forester Invitational on Saturday
Amy and Andrea Krueger named to All-Tournament Team

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College volleyball team won four times over the weekend (October 1-2), defeating Knox College 30-22, 30-28, 30-18 on Friday and winning three times on Saturday to claim the 21st Annual Forester Invitational championship. The team knocked off Concordia University (30-20,30-22,30-18) and Beloit College (23-30,30-26,30-26,30-14) in pool play before prevailing 30-18,30-27,30-26 in the title match against Coe College. The Foresters are now 14-8 overall and 4-2 in Midwest Conference play.

Senior Amy Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) led Lake Forest with 11 kills in the victory over Knox. She and freshman Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) shared the team lead with four blocks. Senior Andrea Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) tallied 34 assists and added four aces while junior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) paced the squad with 13 digs.

Amy Krueger pounded out 11 kills and matched Miller’s 12 team-high digs against Concordia. Sophomore Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) led the squad with four aces, Baich had three blocks, and Andrea Krueger recorded 40 assists and added 10 digs.

Baich matched her career-high with 17 kills and added seven blocks against Beloit. Senior DeAnna Bauer (Naperville, IL/Naperville North) also had a great all-around match with 15 kills, five aces, 11 digs, and a pair of blocks. Amy Krueger recorded 11 kills and 14 digs and sophomore Savanna Shumaker (Bristol, WI/ Westosha Central) reached double figures with 10 kills. Miller once again led the team with 20 digs, Andrea Krueger had 17 digs and 57 assists, and freshman Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) registered 11 digs.

Baich made some history in the title match triumph over Coe. Six of her eight blocks in the three-game victory were solos, matching the school record she set the previous Sunday (September 26) and giving her a school record 48 solo blocks on the season with a minimum of 10 matches still to play. Shumaker led the team with a dozen kills. With 10 kills and as many digs, Amy Krueger reached double figures in both categories for the third time on the day and 10th this season. Miller had a team-high 16 digs and three aces. Martin recorded 11 digs for the second straight match and Andrea Krueger tallied 38 assists.

Amy and Andrea Krueger were each named to the all-tournament team. Amy tied for the team lead with 32 kills on the day and her 36 digs were tied for second on the squad with Andrea, who recorded 135 assists. Other team-highs included Bauer’s nine aces, Miller’s 48 digs, and Baich’s 18 blocks.

Lake Forest will host the University of Chicago Thursday (October 7) night at 7:00 and will travel to Carthage College the following Tuesday (October 12) for another non-conference match.
