Foresters Complete MWC Schedule with Victory over Grinnell
Team finishes with 6-3 league record

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College volleyball team defeated Grinnell College in three games (30-25, 30-24, 30-18) Saturday (October 23) to raise its overall record to 16-11 and complete the Midwest Conference portion of its schedule with a 6-3 league mark. Grinnell fell to 5-25 overall and 1-6 in the MWC.

Sophomore Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) led all players with 13 kills and did not commit an error in 22 attempts for a .591 hitting percentage. She also added a match-high three blocks, including two solos, and an ace, her team-high 62nd of the year. Sophomore Savanna Shumaker (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) and junior Molly Smith (Watsonville, CA/Watsonville) also reached double figures with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Senior Andrea Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) tallied 41 assists and a match-high three aces. Senior Amy Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) paced the squad with a dozen digs and junior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) added 11. The two now trail the program’s career record of 1,368 digs by 44 and 37, respectively.

Lake Forest still has three more non-conference matches on its regular season schedule. The team will play at Wheaton College Tuesday (October 26) at 7:00 p.m. and at Elmhurst College Thursday (October 28) night at the same time. The Foresters will then host Concordia University (IL) Saturday (October 30) morning at 10:00 in a final tune-up prior to the following weekend’s (November 5-6) Midwest Conference Championship Tournament.
