Forester Volleyball Earns #1 Seed in MWC Championship Tournament
Win over Grinnell improves conference record to 8-1

GRINNELL, IA - It has been said that one sign of a good team is the ability to win a contest when not playing particularly well. The Lake Forest College volleyball team hopes that is true after fighting its way to a four-game (32-30, 30-20, 13-30, 30-26) Midwest Conference win over Grinnell College Saturday, October 27. Despite poor serve receive and numerous attacking errors, the Foresters locked up the number one seed for the season-ending Midwest Conference Championship Tournament.

According to Head Coach Beth Pier, the team showed a lot of heart in pulling out the win. "We really had to scrap it out and win some ugly points," she said. "Though we didn't play well and had a tough time stopping Dinah Zebot on the outside, I'm proud that we showed enough desire and mental toughness to earn the win."

The Foresters had three hitters reach double figures in kills and digs and another tallied double-digit kills. Sophomore outside hitter Jenny Anderson (Sebastopol, CA/El Molino) led the team with 16 kills and also had 12 digs. Senior middle blocker Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/ Marian Central Catholic) recorded 13 kills, 4 aces, a team-high 7 blocks and 11 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Metzger (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) had 10 kills and a team-best 15 digs, and senior middle blocker Angela Lagerman (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) added 11 kills.

In addition to leading the offense with 47 assists, 5'4" senior setter Leslie Boyle (Chicago Heights, IL/ Marian Catholic) contributed a career-high five blocks. Another spark came from first-year defensive specialist Andrea Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew), who tallied four aces.

After a day off Lake Forest will spend four days preparing for the Midwest Conference Championship Tournament at Carroll College in Waukesha, WI. It is the third consecutive year in which the Foresters will enter the tournament as a top seed. They will face the host Pioneers in their opening match at 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 2.
