Miller Reaches 2,000 Career Digs as Lake Forest Falls Twice
Team drops four-game match to Carthage, five-gamer at Judson
Miller has 568 more digs in her career than the next Forester.

ELGIN, IL - The Forester volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches during the week. Lake Forest fell in four games (27-30, 30-22, 31-29, 30-17) to Carthage College, the 23rd-ranked team in the nation, on Tuesday (October 25). The squad also lost in five games (25-30, 30-26, 30-21, 22-30, 15-9) at Judson College on Thursday (October 27) and is now 17-11 on the season.

Junior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) led the Foresters with 11 kills against Carthage. She committed just two attack errors in 28 attempts for a .321 hitting percentage. Balcerzak also added three aces and a pair of blocks. Sophomore Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) chipped in with nine kills and recorded three solo blocks.

Five players reached double figures in digs, led by senior Meghan Miller’s (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) 28. Freshman Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan South) recorded 19, junior setter Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West) had 13 to go along with 31 assists, and sophomore Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) and freshman Lindsay Olmstead (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) added 12 and 11, respectively.

Balcerzak and Baich led the team in kills again on Thursday with 13 and 12, respectively. Baich paced the squad with six blocks, including three solos, and Balcerzak added four. Casey tallied 37 assists in the match and added three blocks.

Miller and Olmstead shared team-high honors with 20 digs. Miller, who became the program’s all-time leader in digs last season, now has 2,004 in her career. Sturgill and Martin chipped in with 18 and 15 digs, respectively.

The Foresters will play their final Midwest Conference match of the season on Saturday (October 29) at Grinnell College. The contest will begin at noon. Lake Forest will compete in the six-team MWC Tournament the following weekend (November 4-5).
