Lake Forest Finishes Regular Season with Triumph over Concordia
Four Foresters record at least 10 kills

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester volleyball team closed out the 2004 regular season with a four-game victory (26-30, 30-22, 30-19, 30-14) at home over Concordia University (IL) Saturday (October 30) morning. Lake Forest is now 18-12 overall while the Cougars fell to 9-20.

It was the Foresters’ Senior Day and the three four-year letter winners combined for 25 kills, 29 digs, 53 assists, and four aces and blocks. Amy Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) led the squad with 19 kills and added 14 digs and a pair of blocks. DeAnna Bauer (Naperville, IL/Naperville North), who also had two blocks, recorded five kills and nine digs. Andrea Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) tallied 50 assists and three aces. She is now just 96 assists shy of the single season school record of 1,294.

Sophomores Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) and Savanna Shumaker (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) pounded out 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Balcerzak also had three blocks and, with her 64th ace of the season, now trails the program’s single-season record by just one. Junior Molly Smith (Watsonville, CA/Watsonville) also reached double figures with 10 kills and did not commit an error in 22 attempts for a .455 hitting percentage. She also added three solo blocks.

Junior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) led the team with 22 digs in the match and freshman Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) had 10. Martin also added a pair of aces.

Lake Forest will compete in the 2004 Midwest Conference Championship Tournament next weekend (November 5-6) at Illinois College. The Foresters will enter the event as the number four seed and will take on fifth-seeded Beloit College in the quarterfinals on Friday.
