Foresters Fall in Five Games to Monmouth College
Team drops to 3-1 in Midwest Conference play

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five-game decision (23-30, 30-24, 30-27, 23-30, 15-13) at home to Monmouth College Tuesday night (October 4). The Foresters fell to 13-8 overall on the season and 3-1 in Midwest Conference play. The Fighting Scots raised their mark to 13-9 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Junior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) led Lake Forest with 16 kills and tied for team-high honors with two aces and six blocks, including a pair of solos. She committed just two attack errors in 43 attempts for a .326 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) and sophomore Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) were next on the squad with 13 kills apiece. Baich matched Balcerzak’s six blocks and Miller recorded two aces and a match-high 33 digs.

Four other Foresters reached double figures in digs. Freshmen Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan South) and Lindsay Olmstead (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) recorded 21 and 20, respectively, sophomore Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) had 16, and junior Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West) added 15. Olmstead also had a career-high five blocks and Casey, the team’s setter, tallied 39 assists and was credited with a pair of aces.

Lake Forest will continue league play this Saturday (October 8) at the MWC Crossover II, hosted by Monmouth College. The Foresters will take on Lawrence University at 11:00 a.m. and Beloit College at 3:00 p.m.
