Lake Forest Sweeps Lawrence and Beloit at MWC Crossover II
Foresters are now 5-1 in conference play this year

MONMOUTH, IL - The Forester volleyball team won a pair of Midwest Conference matches in three games each on Saturday (October 8) at the MWC Crossover II at Monmouth College. Lake Forest defeated Lawrence University 30-26, 30-25, 30-25 to start the day and knocked off Beloit College 32-30, 30-27, 30-27 later in the afternoon. The Foresters are now 15-8 overall this season and 5-1 in league play.

Senior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) led the victors with 14 kills, two aces, and 19 digs against Lawrence. She also added a pair of blocks. Junior Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West) recorded 35 assists and added a dozen digs and both freshman Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan South) and sophomore Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) chipped in with 14 digs. Junior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) led the team with three blocks.

Sophomore Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) and Balcerzak, who each had nine kills against Lawrence, led all players in the victory over Beloit with 16 and 15, respectively. They also accounted for both of the team’s aces in the match. In addition, Baich led the squad with five blocks and Balcerzak added two. Casey tallied 32 assists and Sturgill recorded a team-high 17 digs. Miller and Martin each had 13 digs and freshman Lindsay Olmstead (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) added 10.

Lake Forest will play a pair of matches on the road next week. The Foresters will take on the University of Chicago Tuesday (October 11) night at 7:00 before continuing MWC play at Knox College at the same time on Friday (October 14).
