Foresters Fall to North Central, Win at Benedictine
Four-match winning streak ends, another begins?

 Nicole Baich tied her own school record with six solo blocks against Benedictine.
LISLE, IL - The Lake Forest College volleyball team split a pair of matches at Benedictine University on Saturday (September 10). The Foresters’ four-match winning streak came to an end in the team’s first contest of the day, a grueling 28-30, 30-27, 31-33, 30-18, 17-15 loss to North Central College. The team rebounded to defeat Benedictine 28-30, 30-27, 30-27, 30-24 and is now 5-3 on the year. North Central is 3-3 and Benedictine 4-3.

Sophomore Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) led the Foresters with 18 kills against North Central and added three blocks. Junior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) was next on the squad with 14 kills and she added two aces.

Three players recorded at least 20 digs, led by freshman Lisa Sturgill’s (Sheboygan, WI/Sheboygan South) season-high 37. Senior Meghan Miller (Williams Bay, WI/Williams Bay) added 27 digs and sophomore Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) had 24.

Junior setter Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West) tallied 53 assists and a dozen digs in the match and led the team with four aces.

Baich led the team in kills again against Benedictine with 15 and she added nine blocks, including a school record-tying six solos. Lake Forest’s 10 solo blocks in the match are a new school record for a four-game contest. Balcerzak and junior Savanna Shumaker (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) each had 11 kills and Miller added 10.

Sturgill recorded 23 digs, three more than Miller, and Balcerzak paced the squad with three aces.

Casey had 43 assists, another 12 digs, and two more aces.

The Foresters will be back in action next Saturday (September 17) at Wheaton College’s Thunder Classic. Lake Forest will take on Concordia University (IL) at 11:00 a.m. and Rockford College at 1:00 p.m. before playing a rematch against North Central at 3:00 p.m.
