FORESTERS WORK FIVE GAMES TO DEFEAT ST. MARY’S
In a match which Head Coach Beth Pier characterized as “…a struggle”, the Lake Forest volleyball squad rallied to defeat visiting St. Mary’s College (IN) in five games (9-15, 15-2, 8-15, 15-9, 15-9) on Tuesday night. “Our offense just wasn’t clicking and we had a lot of hitting errors,” Pier added. “Though the match never felt great, we got more aggressive as it went on and, I felt, played to win. Good serving and blocking were the keys in games four and five. Angela Lagerman (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls High School) did a great job off the bench.”
The Foresters got four blocks in the final two games from Lagerman, including an assist block with fellow sophomore Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic H.S.) to end the match. Junior Sarah Frantz (Lake Geneva, WI/Badger H.S.) recorded 47 assists and 5 aces, while senior Jessie Griffin (Beecher, IL/Marian Catholic H.S.) added 16 kills and 15 digs, both team-highs.
Lake Forest is back in action Thursday, September 16th at the Benedictine Triangular, where they will face North Central College at 6:00 p.m. and Benedictine University at 8:00 p.m. The two matches will kick-off a two week, four-match road swing for the Foresters.
