Lake Forest Competes at Wheaton College Invitational
Lisa Sturgill named to all-tournament team

WHEATON, Ill. - The Forester volleyball team participated in the Wheaton College Invitational over the weekend (September 26-27). Lake Forest was defeated 19-25, 25-16, 28-26, 25-22 by UW-Stevens Point and 25-18, 25-20, 25-16 by Cornell College on Friday. On Saturday the Foresters fell 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 to Lakeland College and 25-22, 19-25, 25-14, 25-15 to Judson University. The team is now 3-13 on the season.

Senior Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) led the team with 15 kills against Stevens Point. She also added 11 digs and a pair of aces. Sophomore Mandi Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) was next on the squad with eight kills and she recorded a team-high seven blocks, including six solos. Senior Ashleigh Martinez (Chula Vista, Calif./Hilltop) had 10 assists and classmate Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) tallied 30 digs.

Senior Amy Chappuis (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) led the squad with five kills against Cornell. Sophomore Deena Blanchard (Sparta, Mich./Sparta) had nine assists, Cretacci recorded four aces, Mulliner had four blocks, and Sturgill 17 digs, one more than junior Nicole Leonard (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Chaminade College Prep.).

Cretacci pounded out eight kills and three aces against Lakeland and added 13 digs. Martinez had nine assists, Mulliner three blocks, and Sturgill 15 digs.

Cretacci and Mulliner recorded 17 and 13 kills, respectively, against Judson. Cretacci also had 15 digs in the match and Mulliner led the team with four blocks. Blanchard finished with 16 assists and two aces and Sturgill recorded 21 digs. Freshman Theresa Converse (Warrentown, Va./Notre Dame Academy) matched Blanchard's two aces and had 27 digs on the day, including 15 in this match.

Sturgill was named to the all-tournament team after tallying 83 digs in the four matches combined.

The Foresters will host the University of Chicago Thursday night (October 2) at 7:00 before beginning Midwest Conference play the following Tuesday (October 7) at home against Carroll University. Live video webcasts of all Lake Forest home matches will be available at www.midwestconference.tv.
