LAKE FOREST MOVES CLOSER TO SOUTH DIVISION'S TOP SEED Lake Forest made quick work of Monmouth on Tuesday - the match lasted barely over an hour. Sophomore Angela Lagerman (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls High School) shattered a school record with nine blocks in the three-game match. The old record, accomplished five times, was six. Sarah Frantz (Lake Geneva, WI/Badger H.S.) added 35 assists and Chris Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton H.S.) had three aces. "As the match went on we gained confidence and became very aggressive," Head Coach Beth Pier commented. "Our serving was excellent and we used every weapon in our offense." It was Pier's 96th career coaching victory. She entered the season as the 30th winningest active NCAA Division III head coach. In the Foresters' 15-8, 2-15, 15-11, 15-11 win at Grinnell on Saturday, Frantz took her turn at breaking a school record when she dished out 65 assists, breaking Amy Valentine's mark of 64 assists in a four-game match. Junior Amanda Taylor (Chico, CA/Pleasant Valley H.S.) led the team with 21 kills (with only 5 errors) and 16 digs. Sophomore Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic H.S.) added 17 kills, while Jessie Griffin (Beecher, IL/Marian Catholic H.S.) had 12 kills and 15 digs. Lake Forest will travel to Elmhurst on Thursday, September 30th. Elmhurst is third ranked team in the Midwest region according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's latest rankings. |
