Foresters Claim Five-Game Victory over Marian
Lake Forest wins 2006 Homecoming match

Lake Forest, Ill. - The Lake Forest College volleyball team hosted and defeated Marian College 30-20, 21-30, 30-20, 21-30, 15-6 Thursday (September 28) evening. The Foresters raised their record on the year to 8-10 while the Sabres fell to 3-14.

Junior Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) led the home team with 21 kills and five blocks. Senior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) was next on the squad with 14 kills and she added four aces. Sophomore Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) also reached double figures with 11 kills. Senior Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) recorded 44 assists. And junior Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) led the team with five aces.

Martin was also one of three Foresters to reach double figures in digs. She had 13, freshman Nicole Leonard (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Chaminade College Prep.) recorded 16, and sophomore Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) led Lake Forest with 21. Sturgill is now just eight digs away from 1,000 in her career.

The Foresters are idle this weekend and will resume Midwest Conference play next Friday (October 6) at home against Knox College. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
