September 29th, 2001 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Lake Forest Wins Four of Five Matches at MWC Crossover
Tournament
The first match on Friday was against Ripon College, who the Foresters defeated (32-30, 25-30, 30-26, 30-24). Senior Leslie Boyle (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic) had 41 assists and 10 digs in the match. Sophomore Jenny Anderson (Sebastopol, CA/El Molino) led the team in both kills (18) and digs (19) and added four aces. Sophomore Stephanie Metger (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) and senior Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic) also reached double-digits in both kills and digs. The second match on Friday turned out to be the team's first loss to a Midwest Conference opponent since the 1998 MWC Championship Tournament, a span of 22 matches. It was a hard-fought match that went down to the wire before St. Norbert College won in five games (30-22, 24-30, 28-30, 30-17, 15-10). In the team's first match of that length this season, Boyle had a career-high 63 assists in defeat and Anderson led five Foresters in double-digits in kills with a career-high 22. Saturday started with a 9:00 am match against host Beloit College, which Lake Forest won in three games (30-16, 30-13, 30-20). The team lead in kills was shared by senior Angela Lagerman (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) and junior Kelly McNiff (Maryland Heights, MO/Pattonville) with seven. Reinboldt's fourth kill of the match was the 1,043rd of her career, breaking the record previously held by Anna Panighetti ('98). The Foresters recorded a .344 team hitting percentage in the match. Carroll College was Lake Forest's next opponent, and, like Beloit, was defeated in three games (30-23, 30-16, 30-25). Boyle tallied 46 assists, Reinboldt led the team with a dozen kills and freshman Amy Krueger (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) recorded as many digs to lead the squad in that category. The Foresters bettered their previous match with a .348 hitting percentage. The final match of the weekend was a four-game victory over Lawrence University (21-30, 30-20, 30-20, 30-27). Boyle had another 47 assists to bring her weekend five-match total to 228. She also recorded 24 digs in the match to give her a school record 919 for her career, erasing Panaghetti from the top spot in another category. Reinboldt tallied another 15 kills to lead the team and raise her career total to 1,071. The South Division held a slight edge over the North by winning 13 of 25 matches on the weekend. Lake Forest and Illinois College led the South with four wins in five matches against the North. St. Norbert was the only team to go undefeated as they knocked off all five South Division opponents. Lawrence (North) was the only 3-2 team while four schools (Ripon, Carroll, Monmouth and Grinnell) went 2-3. Midwest Conference division standings will be based on a point system for the first time in league history. Teams will receive one point for each win against the other division at the Crossover Tournament and two points for each win within the division during the course of the season. The division standings will be used to seed the MWC Championship Tournament on November 2-3rd. The next match for the 11-9 Foresters will be on Thursday (October 4th)
at Elmhurst College at 7:30 pm. Next Saturday (October 6th) will be the
18th Annual Forester Invitational Volleyball Tournament, which begins at
10:00 am with the host school taking on Concordia University (IL).
