Foresters Begin Season with Split in Triangular
Lake Forest falls to Benedictine, defeats North Central

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College volleyball team started its 2001 season by hosting a triangular with Benedictine University and North Central College. After Benedictine beat North Central in the opening game, the Foresters were also defeated by Benedictine but rebounded to win the late match over North Central.

Lake Forest got off to a good start against Benedictine by winning the first game 30-27. The next three, however, went to the Eagles by scores of 30-22, 30-28 and 30-26. Freshman DeAnna Bauer (Naperville, IL/Naperville North) recorded 48 assists in the four-game match. Sophomore Jenny Anderson (Sebastopol, CA/El Molino) led the team with 18 kills and 13 digs. Senior Angela Lagerman (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) had 12 kills, a .400 hitting percentage and 6 blocks in the match.

In the four-game victory over North Central (22-30, 30-27, 30-27, 30-25), Bauer tallied 49 assists, one more than in the first match. Senior Stephanie Reinboldt (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic) led the squad with 18 kills and added 9 digs and a pair of blocks. Anderson notched 16 more kills, a team-high 12 digs and four service aces. Lagerman had 9 more kills and finished the day with a .386 hitting percentage in the two matches combined.

The Foresters will take their 1-1 record to the Elmhurst Invitational this weekend (September 7-8th). They will play Wittenberg University (5:00 pm) and Elmhurst College (7:00 pm) on Friday and Illinois Wesleyan University (12:00 pm) and Wheaton College (2:00 pm) on Saturday.
