Foresters Defeat Wheaton in Three Games in Home Opener
Team rallies from 21-10 deficit to win game three

LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College volleyball team played its 2005 home opener Tuesday (September 6) night against Wheaton College and defeated the Thunder 32-30, 30-20, 31-29. The Foresters had trailed 21-10 in the final game before coming back to win the match. The team is now 3-2 and has won three matches in a row.

Sophomore Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) led the Foresters with a dozen kills and now has a team-high 64 on the season. Classmate Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) was next on the squad with seven kills and led Lake Forest with three aces and 16 digs.

The team’s leader in blocks was junior Janelle Balcerzak (Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI) with five and fellow junior Kendra Casey (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West), the Foresters’ setter, recorded 28 assists, 12 digs, and a pair of aces.

Lake Forest will be back on the road Thursday (September 8) night at Marian College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
