Foresters Fall in Five Sets to Visiting Marian University
Mandi Mulliner sets team record for aces in a 5-set match

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College volleyball team dropped a 5-set match to visiting Marian University Tuesday night (September 9). The Foresters won the first set 25-14 before falling 25-21 in both the second and third. The home team prevailed 25-23 in the fourth set but came up just short in the 15-13 fifth. Lake Forest fell to 2-4 on the season while the Sabres raised their record to 2-7.

For the sixth time in as many matches, senior Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) led the squad in kills. She finished with 18 and added two aces and three blocks. Sophomore Mandi Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and senior Amy Chappuis (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) also reached double figures with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Mulliner also recorded a team-high 5 blocks and set a 5-set school record with eight aces. Sophomore Deena Blanchard (Sparta, Mich./Sparta) led the team's two setters with 24 assists.

Senior Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) tallied 40 digs in the contest and is now just 30 digs shy of the program's career record of 2,083. Junior Nicole Leonard (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Chaminade College Prep.) added 17 digs and Blanchard 12 to go with her three aces.

Lake Forest will travel to Benedictine University on Saturday (September 13) and take on North Central College at noon and the hosts at 2:00 p.m.
