Three Victories in Hawaii Give Foresters 8-0 Record
Team's best start since 1990-91 season

HONOLULU, HI - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team returned from their trip to Hawaii with three victories, extending the Foresters' season-opening win streak to eight games. The squad recorded a 73-53 victory over Willamette University (OR) on Saturday (December 28), a 75-29 win against Elms College (MA) on Sunday (December 29), and a 68-62 triumph over Illinois Wesleyan University on Monday (December 30).

In the victory over Willamette, senior Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) shot 6-of-7 from the field, scored a team-high 15 points, and pulled down seven rebounds. Junior guard Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley) shot 3-of-5 from three-point range, scored 11 points, and added three steals. Sophomore guard Kandyce Green (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic) also had three steals, scored seven points, and dished out a game-high five assists.

The Foresters shot just 39.1% in the game but held Willamette to 23.3%. The teams combined to attempt 142 field goals and 50 free throws, commit 48 turnovers, and record 32 steals in the fast-paced contest.

Against Elms, McCants scored a dozen points to tie sophomore guard Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) for the team lead. McCants added seven rebounds while Freeman recorded five assists. Wagner also had five assists and as many steals.

Elms did not record a field goal in the first half and shot just 23.1% for the game. Lake Forest struggled from the field as well, shooting only 35.2%, but tallied a school record 35 steals and forced 47 turnovers.

Three players reached double figures in scoring in the finale against Illinois Wesleyan. Freeman and McCants again led the way with 14 points. McCants pulled down nine rebounds while Freeman made three three-pointers, pulled down five boards, and dished out five assists. Sophomore forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) scored 10 points and added five rebounds after pulling down seven in each of the first two games of the trip.

The Foresters shot just 31.3% from the field while Wesleyan connected 37.9% of the time. Lake Forest's edge came at the free throw line, where it shot 24-of-34 compared to 6-of-10 shooting for the Titans.

The last 15 games of the Foresters' regular season schedule will all be against Midwest Conference opponents, beginning on Wednesday, January 8 at Illinois College. Both Lake Forest and the Lady Blues are 1-0 in league play so far this season.
