LAKE FOREST COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY UPDATE:
FIRST PLACE FORESTERS PREPARE FOR STRETCH RUN IN THE MWC

Two road games await Lake Forest this week.The Foresters will kick off a four-game road swing with contests in Appleton, WI on Tuesday and Waukesha, WI on Friday. Lake Forest will face the MWC's current third place team (Lawrence University) on Tuesday and the fourth place squad (Carroll College) on Friday. The Foresters defeated Lawrence, last year's MWC Champion, 68-57, at home on January 15th and knocked off Carroll, 75-58, in Lake Forest last Friday (January 28th).

Dominance at both ends of the court.Lake Forest is currently leading the Midwest Conference in offensive points per game with 74.8. Beloit ranks second at 69.0 ppg. the Foresters are also third in the league for points allowed per game with 57.1. St. Norbert (56.3) and Carroll (56.5) rank ahead of the Foresters. Lake Forest is the only conference team to appear in the top three for both categories. The Foresters also lead the league in free throw percentage (70.9%), field goal percentage (44.2%), and assists per game (17.0). The team ranks second for three-point field goal percentage (34.3%) and third for rebounds per game (42.2).

Looking at the MWC race.With six games to be played, Lake Forest and St. Norbert sit atop the MWC with 9-1 records. The two teams split their season series. Lawrence, Tuesday's opponent for Lake Forest sits alone in third place with a 7-3 record, while Carroll, Lake Forest's latest victim, is in fourth place at 7-4. The regular season conference champion will host the four-team MWC Championship Tournament, with the winner claiming the 2000 MWC Championship and advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

Scouting the Vikings.The Vikings are 8-8 overall and 7-3 in the MWC, good enough for third place by themselves. Lawrence was upset on the road by Illinois College, 72-20, last Friday (January 28th) before bouncing back to defeat Grinnell College, 74-65, on Saturday (January 29th). Gina D'Amico lead the team with 12.4 points per game, while Jenny Carney adds 10.4 ppg and a team-high 7.1 rebounds per contest. 

Scouting the Pioneers.Carroll bounced back from their 75-58 loss at Lake Forest last Friday (January 28th) by winning 59-47 at Monmouth the next day. The Pioneer's record sits one game above .500 at 9-8 for the season. The team is 7-4 and in fourth place in the MWC. Connie Tetzlaff and Crystal Grosskopf are both averaging double digits for points with 11.7 and 11.4 ppg, respectively. Grosskopt leads the team with 8.1 rebounds per contest.

Foresters tripped up by St. Norbert, bounce back vs. Carroll last week.St. Norbert College handed the Foresters their first MWC loss of the season on Tuesday (January 25th). The 58-53 Green Knight win snapped Lake Forest's seven game winning streak. The Foresters bounced back later in the week with a 75-58 win over visiting Carroll College on Friday (January 28th). Addi Murphy (Chillicothe, IL/Illinois Valley Central H.S.) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the win, while junior Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point H.S.) also scored 15 points.
