LAKE FOREST, IL - The Midwest Conference announced its end-of-season awards for women’s basketball Tuesday (March 1) and a pair of Lake Forest College players and their coach made the list. Senior guard Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) and junior guard Devon Liebl (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Pius XI) earned First Team All-MWC honors and Head Coach Jackie Slaats was named Co-MWC Coach of the Year.

Freeman led Lake Forest in scoring with 13.3 points per game and assists with 56 on the year. She set a single-season school record with 65 made three-pointers and finished the year shooting 46.1% from beyond the arc to rank among the top 10 in the nation. She was second in the conference in both three-pointers made and three-point field goal percentage during the MWC’s 16-game schedule and was ninth in scoring. She finished her four years as the program’s eighth-leading scorer with 900 points and ranks second in three-pointers made (182) and three-point field goal percentage (.405). In addition, she has been the program’s fifth-most accurate free throw shooter at 80.3% in her career.

Liebl was second on the squad with 10.8 points per game and led the team with 6.4 rebounds per contest. She was also second on the team with 55 assists, 41 steals, and a dozen blocked shots. A significant portion of the team’s success can be attributed to her increased contributions after the Foresters lost two 2003-04 all-conference players to season-ending injuries in late-December. Liebl has led the team in scoring (13.9 ppg.), rebounding (7.2 rpg.), and assists (2.8 apg.) since that time.

Slaats shares the MWC Coach of the Year Award with Julie Johnson of league champion Ripon College. It marks the fifth time in her career that she has received the award. She was also honored in 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2002. Slaats owns an overall record of 327-117 in 19 seasons at Lake Forest and a 183-60 mark in conference play.
