Coaching Staff
Chuck Sheftel became the head coach of the Forester women's tennis program during the summer of 2006. The Foresters were 6-5 overall and 3-1 in Midwest Conference South Division matches during his first season at the helm of the program. Lake Forest placed third at the MWC Team Championship Tournament and has now finished among the top three in the league for eight consecutive seasons. Sheftel is also an independent professional tennis instructor as well as a service learning coordinator at numerous schools in the area. While this is Sheftel's first collegiate coaching position, he has 13 years of head coaching experience at the high school level. He directed the girls tennis team at Grayslake High School for three years while assisting on the boys squad. He also coached both the girls and boys programs at Highland Park High School for 10 seasons. Sheftel has held numerous other positions as a head tennis professional, assistant professional, instrustor, and writer throughout his career. He also authored the book Contemporary Racquetball and founded the American Professional Racquetball Association. His expertise in both tennis and racquetball and ability to teach others brought him notoriety as a public speaker about racquet sports. In September of 1983 he toured and lectured throughout Japan at the nation's request. Sheftel has also been heavily involved in the Peace Corps. He served as a volunteer in India in 1969 and later as Vice-President of the Chicago Area Peace Corps Association. Sheftel graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Psychology and a minor in advertising.
