Maryfrances Troha - Artifact Analysis
This object appears to be made of plastic-coated wood reinforced
by metal bracing. It is small in size measuring only approximately
twelve inches in length, two inches in height, and one quarter
inch in depth. It most resembles a common one foot ruler and
is easily transported in its protective cardboard case with
a total weight of not more than an average ceramic coffee
mug. However, it differs from a ruler in that it has three
scales inscribed on either side, the center bar of which is
movable horizontally in either direction.

Attached to the
entire piece and identical on when viewed from either side
is a second movable component. It is made of clear plastic
measuring one inch wide by two inches in height featuring
a thin vertical red line. The entire piece can be moved horizontally
in either direction to position it anywhere along the vertically
aligned scales. Taken together, the portability of the piece
and its resemblance to a ruler make it appear to be more of
a useful than a decorative object with the purpose of making
some kind of numerical comparisons.
